Frazier named ASC Defensive Player of the Week

MARSHALL, Texas – ETBU cornerback Anquanius “Huggie” Frazier has been named the American Southwest Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his role in the Tigers’ 24-21 victory at Mississippi College this past Saturday night.

Frazier, a senior from Daingerfield, picked off two passes to help the Tiger defense preserve a late lead for ETBU (4-3 overall, 4-2 ASC) in the win over the Choctaws. The victory snapped a two-game losing skid by the Tigers and helped ETBU avenge a 45-21 defeat at home to Mississippi College last season.

It was the second time this season in which Frazier has intercepted two passes in a game. The 6-0, 200-pound cornerback now has a team-high four interceptions and 11 passes defended this season.

Frazier already had one interception in the game to halt a Mississippi College drive when he picked off Choctaw quarterback Tommy Reyer inside the ETBU 5 with just over eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and the Tigers clinging to a 17-14 lead. The Tigers tacked on a late touchdown with a 51-yard scoring run by freshman Trevor Cavness before eventually holding off the Choctaws for the three-point victory.

Frazier and the Tigers will host league-leading Mary Hardin-Baylor in ETBU’s home finale this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Ornelas Stadium.

Tigers focusing on winless McMurry

MARSHALL, Texas – There are no gimmes in the American Southwest Conference. ETBU’s Tigers are learning this through the early portion of the conference schedule entering Saturday’s home contest against winless McMurry at 11 a.m. in Ornelas Stadium.
But the Tigers (2-1 overall, 2-0 ASC) also know there are no do-overs, either, which means that every game is important. And every opponent is dangers, especially one still hungry for its first win of the season.
